Photographic restoration digitally revives treasured photographs that have deteriorated or been damaged over time. From fading to spotting, scratches to creases, stains to mould, tears to missing parts, I cover minor repairs to complex restoration projects.

As each restoration is unique, your photograph will need to be assessed to establish the level of work required to ‘make good’. This can be done by sending me a scanned image of the photograph. At this point I can provide you with a quote.

Some photographs have minor damage to them by way of slight discolouration, small spots or scratches and can be restored in a fairly straight forward way by cloning, healing and simple colour correction. In the case of the blue pen marks these were removed using colour separation techniques.

Minor imperfections include basic fade correction, minor dust and scratch removal, sharpening, cropping, and simple contrast adjustments.

Medium corrections include discolouration, mould, more notable fading, more prominent scratches and minor damage.

Advanced corrections include the correction of deep scratches, small missing parts, significant areas of mould damage and more advanced fading.

Specialist corrections cover major restorations and include the correction of large damaged and/or missing areas, object removal, extensive mould damage, major fading, and serious tears.

These two photographs show more specialist treatment by having to repair quite extensive damage. Both photographs were also very small with the largest measuring only 50mm in height. This meant having to scan the originals at a high resolution and maximum bit depth to enable all remaining details to be usable. The child in the pram was the only remaining photograph of that persons childhood and required a lot of care in order to replicate the missing features.
